How to crochet a Poinsettia

The most famous ornamental plant and given during Christmas holidays. Simple and elegant at the same time, Christmas Star presents to our homes that magical, cheerful and colorful atmosphere typical of these festivals. A flower native to Mexico where it is born spontaneously and on which many legends are told and symbolizing love for others.
To create the Crochet Christmas Star you need to prepare 3 sections of petals of 3 different sizes, a pistil and a stem with its leaves.

Need: cotton number 20 and number 10 - 1.0mm crochet hook - scissors - 0.45mm galvanized iron wire - plasticized iron wire - pliers.
For the leaves I used cotton number 10 for the rest the number 20.

Explanation of the flower.

The flower consists of 3 sections of 5 petals each, one small, one medium and one large.

Section of small petals.

Start 20 chains.
Cut a piece of galvanized iron wire 2 times the length of the chains more than 4 cm. Put it on the chains and work around the single crochet that will be 19 on one side and the other on the chains. 1 slip stitch in the gap of the iron wire at the bottom and we start working on the first and only lap: 1 single crochet, 2 single crochet, 2 half double crochet, 2 double crochet, 2 double crochet twice in one point 4 times, 2 double crochet, 2 half double crochet, 2 single crochet, 2 slip stitch, equal to the other side of the single crochets. Tighten about one inch of iron wire and close the work. Prepare in total 5 petals.
Middle Petals Section.

The same procedure as that of the small petal, only changes the points that I'm going to explain now. Start 25 chains, insert the iron wire with 24 single crochet per side, then work the first and only lap as follows: 1 slip stitch, 2 single crochet, 2 half double crochet, 2 double crochet, 2 triple crochet in one point 3 times, 2 triple triple crochet in one point 3 times, 2 double crochet points in a point 3 times, 2 double crochet, 2 half double crochet, 2 single crochet, 2 slip stitch.

Section of large petals.

Same procedure of the small and medium petal. The points are: Start 30 chains, insert iron wire and make 29 single crochet for side, then work as follows: 1 slip stitch, 2 single crochet, 2 half double crochet, 2 double crochet, 2  double triple crochet, 2 double triple at a point 3 times, 2 triple triple crochet in a point 4 times, 2 double triple crochet in one point 3 times, 2 triple crochet, 2 double crochet, 2 half double crochet, 2 single crochet, 2 slip stitch.

The five petals of the various sections will be sewn at the base in ascending order one behind the other. We will then sip the small petals, then the medium ones and finally the big ones alternating the position of the petals to give the flower the right shape.

Now we cut a piece of plastic wire of the length needed to create the stem and on a tip we wrap a little yellow cotton to create a small ball, then help us with a caliper we bend the tip of the stem to stop the cotton and cut The piece that's over. This little pistil will make a pivot to hold the flower.

Explanation of the pistil.

Start 5 chains, close in circle and inside: 7 chains and in the fourth of this do 4 points and close together with a low point, go down to the 5 chain chain with other single crochet and resume the same for a total of 9 times.

Now we assemble the flower by first inserting the pistil and then the sections of the petals.
Now I just have to prepare the sheets I have taken from the primrose and also the rose, I'm just the same I joined 2 to 2 with iron wire and compared to the flower I used a bigger crochet to give more Thickness to work.

Explanation of the leaf.
Start 30 chains.
1 turn: 3 single crochet, 3 half double crochet, 3 double crochet, 11 triple crochet, 3 double crochet, 3 half double crochet, 3 single crochet, equal to the other side of the chains.
2 lap: identical to the first one, the only difference is the triple crochet that instead of 11 will be 14, we will make 3 increases.
3 revolutions: cut a piece of galvanized iron wire length of 2 leaves plus 10 cm and insert it into the leaf by working around the single crochet. Wrap the work well by placing the first leaf in the iron wire to leave room for the second leaf. Twist about 2 or 3 times the iron wire in order to close the leaf, make 2-3 slip stitch drops around it and do not cut any other identical leaf into cotton wool.
After the second leaf comes down to slip stitch until the beginning to insert the iron wire and work around the single crochet, the same closure procedure of the first leaf.
Quit the job.

You will have a couple of leaves with those 3 to 4 inches of extra iron wire that will allow you to fasten them to the stem. The first pair of leaves will be fastened to the stem immediately after the flower that will keep it in this way firmly. Place all the other leaves around the stem and then cover it with green cotton, working around the chains once on the right and once on the left of the stem, except that piece that will be inserted inside the vessel.

I hope you have explained everything to the best and have given you an extra idea for your creations. Following your imagination and your passion you can naturally change the composition and personalize your Christmas Star. They are beautiful too white.

Good to everyone, hello to the next!
